Work Study Introduction

WORK STUDY: IS A STEP-BY-STEP EXAMINATION OF THE METHOD TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITIES?

Work-study is used to improve the effective use of the resources and also used to set up the standards of the performance for which the activities are carried out.

In work-study, the word “Efficiency” began in the 19th to 20th century. The work measurement i.e., the time and method study i.e. the motion is two principal activities of work-study.

These two studies are originated in the work of T.W. Taylor. T.W. Taylor is called as the father of scientific management.

Method study is used to achieve the economy of the project.
There are very few Work-Study Officers practising within the Construction Industry if any.

It has been proven in the past that the more forward-looking companies who used Work Study have succeeded by gathering much-needed information for;
Estimating for future work
Boosting the morale of the workforce by offering an incentive scheme based on Standard Performance.

Simple site feedback is the general basis for estimator’s guides such as those published by SPON and Laxton. These guides are unsuitable for planning purposes as they describe the probable outcome if the workforce is not proactively driven by the management, and not what is achievable by a well-run team. The production rates we use as a basis for our planned construction activities have been gathered over a period of over 70 years covering all aspects of construction…

If we are governed by a given time frame for the project, we calculate the resources needed in order to achieve completion.

What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work."

Stephen King
